Mental Health Supports Under the NDIS: What You Need to Know

Mental health is just as important as physical health — and the NDIS recognises that.
If you or your loved one is living with a psychosocial disability (a disability that arises from a mental health condition), you may be eligible for a range of supports under the NDIS.
Let’s break it down: what’s available, how it works, and what it looks like in real life.
🧠 What Is Psychosocial Disability?
Psychosocial disability refers to the functional impacts of a mental health condition — like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, or OCD — on day-to-day life.
It’s not about the diagnosis alone. It’s about how that condition affects a person’s ability to live independently, build relationships, and participate in the community.
💡 What Mental Health Supports Can the NDIS Fund?
NDIS funding can help participants with psychosocial disability access:
1:1 support for daily living, routines, or community participation
Capacity-building supports (like emotional regulation or social skills development)
Therapeutic supports (e.g. counselling, occupational therapy, recovery coaching)
Support with planning, organisation, and executive functioning
Help to reduce isolation and build connection
Support may be delivered at home, in the community, or in structured programs — depending on your goals.
🔍 What's Recovery Coaching?
Recovery Coaching is a mental health-specific support available under the NDIS. It’s designed for participants with psychosocial disability and provides:
✅ A deeper understanding of your mental health
✅ Support to build goals around recovery
✅ Connection to services, resources, and practical strategies
✅ Someone to walk beside you during difficult moments
Not all participants will have this in their plan — speak to your Support Coordinator or LAC to learn more.
❤️ What Mental Health Support Looks Like at Loving Life
We work with many participants experiencing mental health challenges, and our approach is always:
✅ Trauma-informed
✅ Non-judgmental
✅ Gentle and consistent
✅ Adaptable to good days and bad
We offer both 1:1 support and small group programs that prioritise connection, emotional safety, and real-life coping skills — without pressure.
Whether it’s helping someone build a morning routine or supporting emotional regulation through gentle social interaction, we always meet our participants where they’re at.
