Skills Development and Training provides individual and group-based learning to help participants develop everyday life skills.
According to the NDIS Pricing Arrangements, this support includes training in:
Public transport use
Community access
Social participation
Recreational skills
Daily living activities
It focuses on helping participants participate safely and confidently in their community.
Supports may be delivered:
1:1, or
In small group programs
They are funded through Capacity Building – Increased Social and Community Participation.
What Can Be Claimed Under NDIS Skills Development & Training?
This line item can be used for structured skill-building in areas such as:

Skills Development and Training can be delivered in different ways depending on the participant’s goals.
Individual Training
One-on-one support focuses on:
Personalised goals
Targeted skill development
Flexible pacing
Group Programs
Group-based learning helps participants:
Practise social skills
Build confidence
Learn through peer interaction
Prepare for real-world situations
Many life skills such as cooking, budgeting, and community access are especially effective when practised in small, supportive groups.
What This Support Does Not Cover
Skills Development and Training does not include:
Therapy or counselling
Behaviour intervention
Medical or nursing services
Allied health assessments
General recreational activities without learning goals
This funding is for structured learning and skill development, not treatment or casual recreation.
Additional Claims Allowed
When delivering Skills Development and Training supports, providers may also claim for:
Non-Face-to-Face Support (planning, reporting, preparation)
Provider Travel (time)
Short Notice Cancellations (7 days’ notice)
Provider Travel – Non-Labour Costs (Code: 09_799_0117_6_3)
Activity-Based Transport (Code: 09_591_0117_6_3)
All claims must directly support the participant’s learning goals.
