The NDIS Price Guide Explained (Simply)

If you’ve ever opened the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits (formerly known as the “NDIS Price Guide”) or the PAPL and felt completely lost — you’re not alone!

It’s a big document full of codes, categories, and numbers… but it actually serves a really important purpose.

Let’s break it down in plain English so you know what it is, how it works, and what it means for you or your loved one.

💡 What Is the NDIS Price Guide?

The NDIS Price Guide is a document that:

  • Lists the maximum amount providers can charge for NDIS services

  • Sets the rules and definitions around how supports can be delivered

  • Helps planners, support coordinators, participants, and providers stay on the same page

It’s updated each year (usually in July), and you can always find the most current version on the NDIS website.

🏷️ What’s Included in It?

The price guide includes:

  • Support categories (like Core, Capacity Building, Capital)

  • Line items with a code, support description, and price limit

  • Information about support ratios (like 1:1 or 1:3)

  • Rules around things like provider travel, cancellation policies, and group billing

For example:

A 1:1 community access session on a weekday might be listed at $70.23/hr under the Core category.

That’s the maximum hourly rate that can be charged for that type of support.

🧠 Why Does It Matter?

The price guide protects participants from being overcharged. It also keeps providers accountable for how they bill NDIS services.

Knowing how to read it means you can:

✅ Understand what you're being charged for

✅ Ask the right questions when comparing providers

✅ Make sure your funding is used fairly and appropriately

✅ Spot red flags if something seems “off”

🔍 Do Participants Need to Understand It?

Not fully — but a basic understanding helps a lot.

You don’t need to memorise codes or limits, but being able to ask things like:

  • “Which category is this coming from?”

  • “Is that a weekday or weekend rate?”

  • “Is this a group or individual support?”

…can give you way more control and confidence when using your plan.

🧡 How Loving Life Keeps It Simple

At Loving Life, we believe support should be clear and transparent.

That’s why we:

✅ Always explain our pricing (no hidden fees!)

✅ Offer upfront quotes and simple breakdowns

✅ Only charge within the official NDIS price guide limits

✅ Use the correct ratios and categories for every session

✅ Are happy to talk through pricing — no jargon, no pressure

We know families have enough to juggle. NDIS pricing shouldn’t be one more stress.
