Group programs can be an incredible way for NDIS participants to build social skills, try new things, and develop independence in a fun, supported environment.
But if you're a parent or carer, you might be wondering: What actually happens during one of these sessions?
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what’s usually included in a typical day at one of our group programs — and why each element is thoughtfully designed to support participant growth.
🧭 Structured But Flexible Schedule
We believe in the power of routine — but we also know that participants may have different needs each day.
A typical session includes:
Arrival and check-in: Warm welcome, sign-in, and visual timetable preview
Group welcome circle: Setting the tone, going over the plan, and settling in
Main activity or outing: Could be arts and crafts, cooking, bowling, beach day, or group games
Lunch and downtime: Time to refuel, socialise, or regulate in a quiet space
Wrap-up and reflection: Celebrating wins, revisiting goals, and preparing for pick-up
🎯 NDIS Groups should have Goal-Based Activities (But Still Fun!)
Every activity we plan connects back to NDIS goals like:
Communication and teamwork
Problem-solving and resilience
Community participation
Life skills and independence
Emotional regulation and social confidence
It might look like painting a canvas or baking cupcakes — but behind the scenes, we’re supporting learning every step of the way.
🌈 Mixed Modalities for Different Learners
We know that no two participants are the same — so our group days are designed with different learning styles in mind.
We incorporate:
Visual aids (like timetables, schedules, and social stories)
Hands-on activities
Movement-based breaks
Gentle group discussions
Sensory-friendly adjustments
Our facilitators are trained to adapt as needed — on the spot — so every participant feels safe, included, and successful.
🧡 Supportive, Empowering Environment
Whether a participant is outgoing or reserved, verbal or nonverbal, experienced or brand new — our job is to create a space where they can thrive.
We maintain small group sizes, build predictable routines, and focus on encouragement and gentle scaffolding.
And most of all? We make it fun — because growth happens when participants feel safe, respected, and connected.
