Social & Skills: An NDIS Social Group on the Gold Coast for Neurodiverse Boys and Young Men
Social & Skills is a weekly NDIS social group on the Gold Coast for neurodiverse boys and young men who want to get out, meet people, try new things, and build confidence in the community.
The group combines real community outings with practical skill building, giving participants regular, predictable opportunities to practise communication, planning, and independence in settings that look like everyday life rather than a classroom.
What Is Social & Skills?
Social & Skills is an NDIS funded group program on the Gold Coast focused on community access, social connection, and everyday skill development.
Each Thursday runs as a full day. The group heads out into the community together, comes back to The Hub in Nerang to plan and cook lunch, and finishes with structured downtime before the day ends.
This is not a one off outing. It is a consistent, familiar group that builds confidence and connection over time.
What Happens in This NDIS Social Group?
A typical Thursday includes:
Community outings, such as bowling, local attractions, and other activities chosen with the group
Practising budgeting, planning, and decision making in real situations
Preparing and sharing lunch together at The Hub
Working on communication, turn taking, and problem solving as a group
Structured downtime and a regulation reset before finishing the day
Activities are supported by experienced disability support workers and adapted to suit individual needs, energy levels, and social confidence.
Participants join in at their own pace, and flexible bookings are available if a full day is not the right fit.
Who Is Social & Skills For?
Social & Skills is designed for neurodiverse boys and young men who:
Want to build social confidence and friendships
Would rather be out in the community than sitting in a room
Benefit from consistency, routine, and a familiar group
Are working on practical independence skills like planning, budgeting, and cooking
The group is kept small, with up to six participants, so support stays personal and the pace stays manageable.

Why Community Based Activity Works
Skills practised in a quiet room do not always transfer to a busy shopping centre or a noisy bowling alley. Social & Skills works the other way around, so the skill and the setting are the same thing.
Through the program, participants can:
Practise communication in real, unscripted environments
Build confidence through familiar, repeated outings
Make decisions and manage a budget with support close by
Develop friendships with peers working on similar things
Because the structure repeats each week, many participants find it easier to settle in, engage, and take social risks they would not take somewhere new every time.
A Supportive Approach to Community Access
At Loving Life, community access is not about filling time or ticking boxes. It is about creating real opportunities for participation, connection, and growth.
Social & Skills is built to be welcoming, consistent, and genuinely enjoyable, while still doing the quiet work of building independence.
